Harris Thermal Transfer Products
Harris Thermal Transfer Products has been a fixture in Yamhill County since its founding over a century ago in 1885. Headquartered in Newberg, Oregon, Harris Thermal has built a reputation worldwide for crafting custom high-quality heat exchangers, pressure vessels, evaporators, condensers, and other custom metal equipment. These products serve industries ranging from power generation and alternative energy, water treatment, food processing, oil & gas, among others. The equipment is designed to manage heating or cooling cycles in complex industrial processes while ensuring safety and reliability under-pressure conditions. Led by CEO Don Fuchs, Harris Thermal has 75 employees and over 50,000 square feet of fabrication space in Newberg, giving them the capacity to take on projects of virtually any size—whether that’s a small evaporator for a local food manufacturer or a 100-ton heat exchanger for a pulp mill across the country, all while ensuring safety and reliability under high temperature and pressure conditions.
Their Newberg shop is outfitted with overhead cranes capable of lifting 200,000 pounds, and specialized machining centers across 4 bays. Having all fabrication, testing, and finishing processes under one roof helps Harris Thermal maintain tight quality control and meet aggressive delivery timelines.
Here, Harris Thermal CEO Don Fuchs explains to First Federal Board Chairman Doug Hurl, that in this heat exchanger model each of those hundreds of small metal tubes carries one fluid (like steam or hot water), while the space around them carries a second fluid. Heat transfers between the two without the fluids ever mixing—one side cools down as the other heats up. This tube bundle slides into a larger “shell” housing to become a complete heat exchanger unit. It’s this level of precision and innovation that underscores Harris Thermal’s reputation—and sets the stage for how their work translates into real‐world value for customers and the community.
